Jodie B. Cooper was born in Kingston, Jamaica. She moved to the United States as a young girl and has been a writer since her teens, working as a reporter, editor, and columnist at a number of newspapers. Her first book, a memoir titled "Three Dark Years: A Jamaican Woman’s Struggle for Survival," was published in 2007
She also co-wrote "The Caribbean Connection: An Investigative True Crime Story" with her husband, Andrew Cooper, and became an investigative reporter for The Times-Picayune newspaper of New Orleans.
